Abstract: In his 1972 celebrated paper, Serre proved the open image theorem for non-CM elliptic curves. In our recent paper, we study an effective open image theorem for pairs of elliptic curves. We can show, for 100% of pairs of elliptic curves, the exceptional primes are small. We first reduce the problem to a Linnik type problem and then apply the zero density estimate method. This is joint work with Tian Wang.
